BELOW 2° – A CLIMATE-RESPONSIVE ART INSTALLATION
Initiative by: Karma Lakelands
Ideation & Execution: Greener Earth Foundation
At Karma Lakelands, sustainability is more than just a philosophy—it’s a way of life. Diki Bhutia, Director - Environmental Sustainability at Karma Lakelands, is deeply committed to driving impactful environmental initiatives. This dedication fuels our support for projects like Below 2°, an installation that transforms climate urgency into powerful visual storytelling.
Below 2° isn’t just art—it’s a warning. Built from 1000 repurposed golf balls from the Karma Lakelands’ Golf Course this 5-foot globe is hand-painted by school-children, the very generation that will inherit our planet. The structure is fused with a special wax blend that melts at 53°C, mirroring the planet’s fragility under rising temperatures. As the heat intensifies, the installation distorts, offering a haunting glimpse into our climate reality.
Encircling the globe, 14 3D-printed endangered species from the IUCN Red List remind us of the biodiversity at risk. If global temperatures rise above 2°C, entire ecosystems—and this installation—could collapse.
With global warming already at 1.5°C, we are dangerously close to breaching the tipping point. Without action, we face:
• Extreme Weather: Heatwaves, floods, wildfires, and unlivable regions.
• Massive Biodiversity Loss: Species extinction due to habitat destruction.
• Rising Sea Levels: Coastal cities disappearing under water.
•Food & Water Shortages: Threats to agriculture and global stability.
